NZ vs PAK: Rachin Ravindra’s Century Steals the Show as New Zealand Posts 401 Against Pakistan in ICC World Cup 2023 Clash

Rachin Ravindra’s Heroic Century Powers New Zealand

In a crucial World Cup fixture in Bengaluru, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra stole the show with a brilliant century, while Kane Williamson made a strong comeback after his thumb injury. Their partnership of 180 runs propelled New Zealand to a commanding total of 401/6 against Pakistan.

The Black Caps got off to a strong start with a 68-run opening stand, the highest of the World Cup for them. However, Hasan Ali’s short ball dismissed Devon Conway and marked his 100th ODI wicket, raising hopes of a Pakistan comeback. But Williamson and Ravindra thwarted those hopes with ease.

The pair targeted Pakistan’s sixth-bowling options, Iftikhar Ahmed and Agha Salman, putting on a partnership that yielded a combined 76 runs without losing a wicket. Iftikhar managed to break through, dismissing Williamson, but it took an exceptional catch by Fakhar Zaman to do so.

Williamson’s sublime innings ended at 95 off 79 balls, with 10 fours and 2 sixes, accelerating after his half-century. Rachin Ravindra followed suit in the next over, falling to an excellent catch by Saud Shakeel, rewarding Mohammad Wasim Jr for his tight bowling after Hasan Ali had been expensive.

From 261/3, New Zealand accelerated to 318/4 in quick time, thanks to an aggressive partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman. They brought up 300 runs in just 40 overs. Both eventually got bowled, with Mitchell falling to a slower ball from Haris Rauf and Chapman getting bowled by Mohammad Wasim Jr’s hint of reverse.

Despite Pakistan selecting four fast bowlers, their senior pacers, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Hasan Ali, proved to be expensive, with Wasim Jr being the standout performer, claiming three wickets.

Glenn Phillips contributed with some late fireworks, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes in his 25-ball 41, helping New Zealand add 54 runs in the last five overs.

In summary, New Zealand posted a formidable total of 401/6, with Rachin Ravindra’s century and Kane Williamson’s brilliant innings leading the way, while Pakistan’s senior pacers struggled to contain the Kiwi batsmen. Mohammad Wasim Jr emerged as the most effective bowler, finishing with three wickets.
