Narendra Modi Stadium venue History:
Before the existence of this stadium, international matches were held at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s stadium, which shared the same name. However, in 1982, the Gujarat government generously donated 50 acres of land along the banks of the Sabarmati River, and the Motera Stadium was erected in a remarkable timespan of just nine months. The inaugural international match hosted here was a Test encounter between India and the West Indies on November 12, 1983.

Venue Description:
The Motera Stadium has borne witness to numerous historic moments and has served as the adopted home ground for the Indian Premier League franchise, Rajasthan Royals. The stadium’s current seating arrangements include the GMDC Upper and Lower stands, East Upper and Lower Pavilion, Adani Lower Pavilion, Adani Upper Pavilion, Club Pavilion, and West Pavilion. All stands, with the exception of the Club and West Pavilions, boast two tiers. The Adani Pavilion stands out with over 20 air-conditioned corporate boxes and the player dressing rooms. The stadium underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2006, just before the Champions Trophy. This facelift introduced state-of-the-art floodlights, covered stands, three new pitches, and a revamped outfield.
Pitch Characteristics: Narendra Modi Stadium
The Motera Stadium is known for offering a slow-paced wicket. While it initially favored bowlers, the pitch has progressively lost its sting, resulting in fewer Test matches culminating in a result.
Notable Milestones:
The Motera Stadium has been the backdrop for several cricketing landmarks. Sunil Gavaskar achieved a historic feat on this ground, becoming the first cricketer to amass 10,000 runs in Test cricket, a record he accomplished against Pakistan in 1986-87. Moreover, Kapil Dev achieved a momentous milestone by claiming his 432nd Test wicket on this very ground, surpassing Sir Richard Hadlee’s record in 1993 and becoming the highest wicket-taker in the world.
