Location: The stadium is situated in Dharamsala, a town renowned for being the abode of the Dalai Lama. It is nestled in the lap of the beautiful Dhauladhar mountain range, which serves as a stunning backdrop to the stadium. The view becomes even more enchanting when the peaks are covered in snow, creating a breathtaking setting for cricket.
Cricket History: Although international cricket matches only began at this stadium in 2013, the HPCA stadium has quickly established itself as a world-class cricket destination. The stadium gained recognition in the cricketing world in 2010 when it hosted an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab.
Dharmshala Stadium Pitch Report Cricbuzz
The pitch at HPCA Stadium is known for being batsman-friendly. It typically offers good batting conditions and high-scoring matches. The high altitude of the ground makes the ball travel faster through the air, benefiting the batsmen. However, the dew can be a significant factor in the evening, especially during the period from September to March. This often leads to the preference for chasing teams as it can be challenging for bowlers to grip the ball effectively in dewy conditions.
Matches Hosted: In addition to hosting IPL matches, the HPCA Stadium has also hosted two One Day Internationals (ODIs). While the first ODI might have been less exciting, the second ODI saw India scoring 330 runs. In that match, Virat Kohli played a notable innings, scoring 127 runs, and India managed to beat the West Indies by 59 runs despite Marlon Samuels’ century.
