Introduction

According to cricbuzz report, Rajiv International Stadium is the home ground of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The need for a new stadium arose after the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) faced limitations in accessing the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, which was under the control of the Sports Authority of Telangana State. Additionally, the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium’s size was deemed insufficient to host international matches.

The HCA swiftly gained approval from the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, for their proposal to construct a new stadium. An auction was conducted to determine the ground’s ownership, and Visaka Industries Ltd secured the bid with a total sum of Rs. 65,00,00,000. The stadium was initially named after the company, but the former Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, decided to rename it in honor of the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.

The inaugural match at this venue featured India facing South Africa in 2005. Since then, India has played a limited number of matches here, with mixed results. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), India has a less favorable record, having lost three out of the five ODIs played. In Test matches, however, India has seen success, winning two out of three games.
