On November 21, BCCI announced a 15-member squad for the T20I series which begins from November 23.
Just four days after India’s heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final, the Men in Blue will face Australia once again, this time in a five-match T20I series starting on November 23 in Visakhapatnam. BCCI announced a 15-member squad for the series on Monday night, with only three players from India’s ODI World Cup squad making the cut.
The squad picked has been largely the same that was sent to Ireland for a T20I contest in August. However, Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the side with Shreyas Iyer slated to join series for the final to matches as the vice-captain. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be serving as Suryakumar’s deputy for the first three games and Ishan Kishan is the only other player from the ODI World Cup team.
Yuzvendra Chahal, who was earlier snubbed from the ODI World Cup squad as well with India preferring a sole leg-spinning option in Kuldeep Yadav, was not included in the 15-member team announced. Hours after the announcement, Chahal took to social media to share a cryptic post with just a smiling emoji.
The series will mark the beginning of India’s preparation for the T20 World Cup next year which will be played in the US. Chahal still has opportunities ahead with the all-important IPL 2024 season coming up.
